In October we returned to the adults-only Hyatt Zilara in Jamaica with some friends for a nice getaway. We used points for our room, and with my Globalist status were upgraded to a beautiful suite directly oceanfront. We flew direct from BWI to Montego Bay using our Companion Pass.
For Luke’s birthday this year, I took Luke and Riley to Universal Orlando and its new Volcano Bay waterpark. We stayed at Lowe’s Royal Pacific Hotel so that we would have express pass access to all of the rides and attractions, which is really causing Universal to win me over from a lifelong Disney loyalist. We really enjoyed our two-day trip.
My father has always wanted to go to Cuba. For his 70th birthday, I organized a 4-day trip for him that included his two sisters and their husbands. We booked our private tour through Locally Sourced Cuba, which was both inexpensive and AMAZING. Kevin and I flew to Orlando and met up with my dad before taking a Jet Blue flight to Havana. My aunts and uncles flew from JFK and we all met up at the airport.
Our funny and personably guide, Joe, spent the entire time with us, and we all enjoyed ourselves very much. We chose the Vintage Havana Private Tour, which included a stay at the Casa Alta Habana. Although we were warned that there was no elevator, I’m not sure our group of mostly 60’s and 70’s folks were truly prepared for the 4 flight walk up to our rooms! I thought my dad might have a heart attack. But other than the stairs, we loved the Casa Alta, and they took very good care of us. Our days with Joe included a walking tour of Old Havana, the Havana Rum Museum, Museum of the Revolution, a Classic Car tour, a mojito making class, and visits to the Havana Jazz Club, Copacabana, and Buena Vista Social Club. We were also scheduled to make a trip to the beach and a visit to the Fine Arts Museum, but we all vetoed these in favor of some R&R since it was crazy hot in Cuba in September. All of our meals were included, and every one was great. I am so glad we got to visit this country before it becomes too westernized.
